Type: individual travel with the most interesting places in Peru and stay in Puerto Maldonado in Amazonia.

Introduction: Travel recommended for those who want to visit the most important tourist attractions of Peru and stay in the Peruvian Amazon in Puerto Maldonado. In Peru you can admire archaeological sites, colonial and pre-Inca cities, traditions and natural aspects of the Andes. The colonial city of Arequipa, Puno and Lake Titicaca, the testimonies of the Incas civilization of Cusco and Machu Picchu, all surrounded by the peaks of the Andes chain and the colorful markets of the Indians. The itinerary continues with an extension in the Amazon where with walks and canoe excursions you can discover the biodiversity of the tropical forest. Healing plants, tropical trees, insects and butterflies and more ... monkeys, sea lions, kingfishers, parrots, toucans and other tropical birds, piranhas and other types of fish.
Day 1: Italy - Flight - Lima
Departure from Italy with scheduled flight. Arrival at the Jorge Chávez international airport in Lima, after the customs formalities meeting with our Italian speaking staff. Transfer to hotel and accommodation in reserved rooms. Free dinner and overnight.
Meals: - / - / -2nd day: Lima - Flight - Arequipa
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport and flight to Arequipa. Assistance on arrival and departure for the visit of Arequipa, known as the "White City" for its beautiful buildings in sillar (volcanic rock). It begins with a stop at the picturesque district of Yanahuara and the viewpoint of Carmen Alto with views of the ancient terraced crops of the Chilina valley. Return to the city center, visit the church and the cloisters of the Society of Jesus and then the Cathedral overlooking the Plaza de Armas. Continuation on foot for a visit to the famous Santa Catalina Monastery, founded in 1579 and opened to the public since 1970, a true citadel in the city. The religious complex covers an area of 20,000 square meters, spread between narrow and winding passages, colorful streets and lush gardens. Free lunch. In the afternoon visit the Museo Santuarios Andinos, where Juanita is exhibited, a young Inca sacrificed to the gods more than 500 years ago on the volcano Ampato (6380 meters). Free dinner and an overnight stay in hotel.

3rd day: Arequipa - Puno (325 km, 6 hours)
Breakfast. Free morning. At around 1.30 pm departure from the hotel with a tourist bus heading towards Puno (3800 meters). The bus will make some stops to be able to photograph the beautiful landscape. Arrival, reception at the station and transfer to the hotel. Free meals and overnight at the hotel.

Day 4: Puno - Excursion on Lake Titicaca to the Uros and Taquile Islands
Breakfast. Boat excursion on Titicaca lake, the highest navigable lake in the world (3810 meters). Legend has it that Mama Occlo and Manco Capac emerged from its waters, the founders of the Inca empire. The first stop is on the floating islands of the Uros, natives of Aymara origin whose lifestyle and strong tradition have always attracted visitors' curiosity: also called water tribes, they live on totora reed islands (rushes), which use also for their huts and their boats; they live mainly from fishing, dried potatoes and aquatic birds. At the end of the visit a short tour will take place on the typical Uros totora boat. Continuation to the Island of Taquile, whose inhabitants of Quechua origin are known for their skilled talents of weavers. From the top of the island you will be surprised by the marvelous spectacle that will be presented: the bright blue of Lake Titicaca surrounded by high mountain ranges. Time available on the island. Lunch in a small community restaurant. Return to Puno with expected arrival in the late afternoon. Free dinner and an overnight stay in hotel.

Day 5: Puno - Cusco (389 km, about 8 hours)
Breakfast. Departure by tourist bus to Cusco. The beauty of the landscape is unique, passing from the plateau to the Andes and crossing many characteristic villages. During the journey the bus will make stops for the visit of Pucara; Raqchi where it will be possible to admire the ancient ruins of Huari and the beautiful temple of Huiracocha and the last stop at Andahuaylillas, where there is the impressive chapel known as the "small sistine". The highest point that you cross is La Raya (4000 meters) which marks the limit between the Andean area and the plateau. Lunch in a local restaurant on the way. Arrival in the evening in Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca Empire, whose name in Quechua means "the navel of the world". Transfer and accommodation at the hotel. Free dinner and an overnight stay in hotel.
Meals: C / P / -6th day: Cusco - Chinchero - Maras - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
Breakfast. Departure for Chinchero. On Sunday, the town of Chinchero hosts an authentic market reached by the inhabitants of the neighboring areas to barter their products with the locals. From this village you can enjoy a spectacular view of the mountains of the Sacred Valley and there is a small but interesting colonial church (not always open to the public). In addition to the market, we will visit the beautiful archaeological site and we will witness a demonstration on the processing of wool; the gentle ladies of Chinchero will introduce us to this real art: from the washing of wool to its spinning, the coloring process with natural dyes made from local plants and finally the weaving with a handcrafted loom. Then we will visit the salt marshes of Maras located at the foot of a mountain and divided into numerous pools that receive salt water from the subsoil. This salt mine is one of the oldest in Peru, it is known that it was exploited before the Inca's arrival in the region. Lunch in a restaurant. Continue to the village of Ollantaytambo to visit the impressive archaeological site. Pachacutec, one of the most representative protagonists of the Inca period, conquered the region and built the village and a large ceremonial center that during the era of the Spanish conquest served as a strong for resistance. Transfer to Ollantaytambo train station and departure for Aguas Calientes with the Expedition train. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 7: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Poroy - Cusco
Breakfast. Departure by shuttle bus to reach the site of Machu Picchu (2490 meters) in about 30 minutes. Visit the majestic ruins of "the lost city of the Incas", discovered in 1911 by the American anthropologist Hiram Bingham. The ruins are located on the top of Machu Picchu (old mountain in Quechua), at the foot of the Huayna Picchu (young mountain), surrounded by the Urubamba and Vilcanota rivers. The complex is divided into two large areas: the agricultural area, formed by the typical Inca terraces located to the south and the urban area to the north, which was the area dedicated to daily activities, both civil and religious. Free lunch. Return to Aguas Calientes and departure by train to Poroy station, continuation to Cusco and hotel accommodation. Free dinner and an overnight stay in hotel.

8th day: Cusco City Tour
Breakfast. Free morning. Free lunch. In the afternoon visit to the city of Cusco. We will visit Korikancha, the most sacred religious center of the Incan period dedicated to the cult of the Sun god and on which, after the arrival of the Spaniards, the convent of Santo Domingo was built. Continuation towards the Plaza de Armas, where according to the legend the golden stick of the Inca Manco Capac stuck, indicating the exact place where to found the city that would become the capital of the Empire. Visit to the great Cathedral, built in the 16th century on the foundations of the Incanic Palace of Viracocha. Later visit to the ruins outside the city: the amphitheater of Qenqo, center of worship at Pachamama (Mother Earth in Quechua); Puka Pukara, an ancient shelter used by chakis (inca messengers) to rest during long expeditions and used as a fort after the arrival of the Spaniards; Tambomachay, known as "Inca Bath", center dedicated to water worship. Last stop in Sacsayhuaman, still today the subject of archaeological studies. This site covers an area of 6 square kilometers and is thought to be a multi-purpose center like Machu Picchu. In the evening there will be a dinner in a local restaurant based on traditional dishes with folklore show. At the end, return to the hotel and overnight.

Day 9: Cusco - Flight - Puerto Maldonado
Transfer to the airport and flight to Puerto Maldonado. Arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, reception and transfer to the city. Short city tour and departure to the port. Boarding and navigation for about 30 minutes on the Madre de Dios river, arrival at the lodge. Typical welcome cocktail and accommodation in the bungalows. Lunch. Departure for a first excursion that will take us inside the tropical forest to discover healing plants, tropical trees, insects and butterflies. A walk of about 3 hours, with a small stop in a "mirador" to observe the toucans and other tropical birds. Return to the lodge. When night falls in a night boat trip for a fun "safari" in search of the caimans. Dinner at the lodge.

Wake up at 05h30 for a walk of 20 minutes to get to the "collpa" the place where various species of parrots descend to feed on a special clay, essential for their metabolism. A truly wonderful and exciting show. Breakfast and free time. It is time to embark on an expedition to the Island of the Apes, where some species live in complete freedom. You will spend unforgettable moments, do not forget to bring your camera. You can board again and after about 30 minutes of navigation you will arrive at the magical and wonderful Lake Sandoval. Walk 5 km through the exuberant forest vegetation before a stop to enjoy a delicious country lunch. The lake is a privileged place where many animal species live, including sea lions, kingfishers, small and large birds, a variety of monkeys, the famous piranha and the gigantic Paiche fish, which can measure 2.50 meters and weigh up to 200 kg. Staying comfortably in a canoe you can observe this variety of fauna until sunset. Return to the river at evening's arrival to be able to see nocturnal animals. Dinner at the lodge and for those who want a little 'relaxation nothing better than to sit on the terrace of the restaurant and lying on deck chairs turn your gaze to the Southern Cross.

11th day: Puerto Maldonado
Breakfast and time available. Towards 10:00 am excursion by canoe (about 1 hour 30 min) along the river and stop at Isla Gamitada for the visit of the Native Community supported by the "palma Real" project. A common project with about 200 families that promotes the preservation of ancient customs and traditions. Possibility to observe monkeys, river turtles, caimans. Around 1:00 pm visit of a tropical vegetable garden with fruit, cocoa, plane tree, coffee and then lunch based on typical products. Return to the lodge. Time available. Dinner and overnight.

Day 12: Puerto Maldonado - Flight - Lima
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport and flight to Lima. Arrival in Lima, assistance and transfer to the hotel. Free dinner and overnight.

Day 13: Lima city tour - Flight
Breakfast. In the morning visit of Lima, capital of Peru and with a population of about 10 million inhabitants, is the fifth largest city in South America. The city was founded on 18 January 1535 by the conquistador Francisco Pizarro under the name of "City of the Kings" and is the commercial, financial, cultural and political heart of the country; here 2/3 of the national industry is concentrated and the largest airport in Peru is located. The colonial center of the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991; we will visit the Convent of San Francisco, with a Baroque-limeño façade and the Cathedral overlooking the Plaza de Armas and home to the tomb of Pizarro. Lunch in the Cafe of the Larco Herrera Museum. Visit the Larco Herrera Museum, founded in 1926 and located in an elegant 18th century building, built on a pre-Columbian seventh century pyramid. The museum houses a large collection of gold, silver and ceramics and is one of the few museums in the world where visitors can walk through the deposit and appreciate 45,000 duly classified archaeological objects; a truly unique experience. Price transfer to Lima airport in time for boarding the scheduled flight to Italy.
