Lima - A group of criminals assaulted during the early hours of today a luxury cruise that traveled the Amazon River, near the Peruvian city of Iquitos, and snatched its passengers goods for about $ 20,000, local media reported.
The cruise ship "Queen Violeta" was assaulted by eight presumed river pirates, who threatened with firearms a group of American tourists and the Peruvian crew, according to the first reports.
Channel N of television indicated that a team of the Directorate of Criminology and the Captaincy of Puerto de Iquitos already arrived to the zone of the assault to transfer the tourists and the crew to the city.
According to the information, the cruise departed on Wednesday afternoon from Iquitos, more than 1,000 kilometers north of Lima, to make a tour of the Amazon River that included stops in towns and nearby towns.
